At the beginning of 2023, in addition to the conventional index increase, a temporary increase of 20% was made to child increases. The temporary increase expires on December 31st, 2023.
The current government has proposed freezing some index increases for the years 2024 - 2027. As a result, there would be no conventional index increase made to the child allowance at the beginning of year 2024. With the temporary 20% increase ending on December 31st, 2023, the child increase would therefore return from January 1st, 2024, to the level formed by the usual index increase of year 2023.
In addition, the government has proposed that the child increase would no longer be paid at all from April 1st, 2024, onwards.
